The Art of Driftwood Arrangement, a series of 11 charcoal drawings, 2015

I discovered a series of books by Ishomoto and called The Art of Flower Arranging when I was exploring floristry. Much of contemporary flower arranging seems to come from the ideas in these books which were published in the 1950s. I was drawn to these as they seem to be making direct links between landscape and nature and transforming one form through expression into another which captures the essence of the former through distillation of shape and texture. These works for me are really an exploration of line and mark marking.
