Unwanted Toy Tombola
Art Car Boot Fair 2015

Katie Hare and I were lucky enough to be part of this years Art Car Boot Fair when it came to Margate in August (and right next to Peter Blake!). I am a massive fan of boot fairs and I visit a lot in Kent during the summer. It is a strange kind of voyeurism that allows you to see people surrounded by their unwanted possessions, spread out on a rug for 20p each. Each time I go I am astounded by the amount of unwanted toys there seem to be. The sale of the contents of a childs bedroom represents a move from childhood to adulthood. Sentimental people like me are likely to find this rather sad. My proposal for this years Art Car Boot Fair was to collect as many unwanted soft toys as I could find and to create a rainbow grotto of toys which would be raffled off in the hope that they would go to loving new home. Awww.

There was a table of special toys which had been customised by Katie and myself. I made a heart patch for mine and Katie embroidered lyrics into hers. Don't miss the Throbbing Gristle bunny and Napalm Death teletubby.
